Peak Adulting

The present that I received for Christmas that was my favourite present was a new toothbrush.

I know, I know, I know. Toothbrushes aren’t that exciting in general. To me? It meant a heck of a lot. First, experiencing Electric Toothbrushes when you’ve only ever used disposable toothbrushes is life-changing. Second, though, it was the thought that went into the gift.

Knowing that I wanted to spend time travelling this year, they went out of their way to ensure that the toothbrush they got me was small/compact and easy to travel with, as well as, that it was rechargeable. This toothbrush that I was given can be charged by USB. This means that the same plug that I carry for charging my electronics, can now charge my toothbrush. I don’t have to worry about batteries. I don’t have to worry about extra cords. THENNNNNNNN, it also comes with a case to keep the bristles protected.

Most importantly, having an electric toothbrush, in a weird way, makes me feel like I’m treating myself. It makes me feel like I’ve splurged on something expensive, so my pearly whites stay pearly and white. It makes me feel, dare I say, bougie… (oof, I despise that word)

Someone bought me a toothbrush for Christmas, and it was truly the kindest, most thoughtful thing. I’m sharing because I think it’s important to note that the thought is really what matters about gifts. It’s always the thought that counts.

(I got the black one. When I need to buy new heads, I’m going to buy various colours because you can mix and match and I think that’s real, real cute. I think the black toothbrush with the peach coloured brush heads would look nice. Peak adulting.)

  1. Also, the best gifts are those that are useful, no matter how trivial, like a new toothbrush😁 I don’t like to receive or give gifts just for the sake of it. It has to be something that can fit in well with the person’s needs.

    1. I completely agree! I would way rather have something I can make use of, as opposed to something that just sits on the table/counter/shelf collecting dust.

    1. They’re called ‘Phillips One’. I googled them after I got them and it’s relatively affordable. Also, you can get replacement heads just about everywhere, which is convenient

    1. Right? Not something I would ever think was a priority, but having a cute toothbrush is in itself, kind of a high point.

  4. This is funny because my mom got me an electric toothbrush for Christmas and I really love it. Before I was using the disposable ones but I couldn’t clean my teeth well after jaw surgery. It was a super thoughtful and useful gift!

    1. I recommend! If you have the budget of course. I think I’ve seen them go as low as $40 on sale.

      1. Yeah no didn’t mean to, honestly! More a precautionary tale for anyone reading where they do have the choice lol. But since it was a gift and you’re traveling there’s no downside, it’s ideal :D.

  8. My journey with toothbrush is all over the place. The usual disposable one by Oral B and Colgate with soft bristles and a sustainable one which had to be dried completely before putting it off…
I had a electric toothbrush few years ago and I left that one back at the hostel i stayed while traveling 🙆

As I am adulting as well. I am finding joy in different coloured and textured bedsheets and towels these days..😂

    1. Oh noooo! Leaving an electric toothbrush at a hostel would be such a drag – since they’re kind of expensive!

As for bedsheets – I completely agree with you!!! I thought I was a weirdo because of my appreciation for bedsheets. (Towels haven’t done yet, but now you’re giving me ideas)

  9. I feel you! You know you’re peak adulting (as you say) when it’s the little things, e.g. toothbrushes, which add value to your life. Or at least, make your life easier…I switched to electric toothbrushes just a couple of years ago, and it’s been great! All the more to improve your pearly whites and smile!

As we grow older, these sorts of self-care gifts speak for themselves in a sense. Someone gifting you something for your health is very thoughtful.

It means they care, which is what matters most, and matters even more the more you grow old.
